For Bowen students, the next chapter can lead anywhere, from a university lecture hall to a recording studio, a laboratory, a workshop, or a new career. This year, the Bowen Island Community Foundation and our scholarship partners are helping 26 local students take those next steps, with $73,000 in scholarships and bursaries awarded to students pursuing education and training:
BICF Scholarships and Bursaries
This year, BICF awarded $18,000 in scholarships and bursaries to support 11 Bowen students as they pursue post-secondary education, trades, vocational training, and skills upgrading.

Knick Knack Nook Scholarship
In partnership with the Knick Knack Nook, we are pleased to administer $50,000 in scholarships for 18 Bowen students pursuing studies in environmental sustainability. The Knick Knack Nook Scholarship for Environmental Sustainability is funded entirely through sales at the Nook—an inspiring example of environmental and social sustainability at work.

Bowen Island Legion Scholarship
This year the Bowen Island Legion, Branch 150, offered five $1,000 awards, totalling $5,000, for Bowen students pursuing post-secondary education or training. Open to students of any age and in any year of study, the inaugural Bowen Island Legion Scholarships recognized a strong commitment to community service.

Connor Harding: Knick Knack Nook Scholarship
“Growing up on Bowen Island inspired my appreciation for nature, community, and sustainability. As I enter my fourth year of Mechanical Engineering at UBC, I hope to build a career designing more energy-efficient and environmentally responsible buildings. This award has helped ease the financial stress of being a student and has also helped reduce some of the financial pressure on my family. I am very grateful for the support, which allows me to stay focused on my education and future goals.”

“As I continue my post-secondary journey, it is wonderful to have the support of the Knick Knack Nook Scholarship for Environmental Sustainability. This year, I will be continuing my studies at the University of Victoria. I’m grateful that the Knick Knack Nook has helped me to study subjects that inspire me and gain knowledge that can help me to contribute positively to my community.”

“I am heading into my second year of nursing school and am genuinely excited for what lies ahead. After nearly ten years away from post-secondary education, I was initially apprehensive about returning to school and adjusting to life as a student again. This past year, however, has shown me just how rewarding it is to learn about something that truly interests and inspires me. Through experiences in both the classroom and clinical settings, I am continually learning, growing, and building a strong foundation as a nursing student. These awards have a profound impact on my journey. This generous support allows me to focus more fully on my education and enjoy the experience of being a student without the same financial pressures that often accompany it. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue pursuing my education and working toward my ultimate goal of becoming a registered nurse.”
