The Junior Development Program
The Bowen Island Golf Association started the JDP long before the official opening of the golf course in 2006. All involved agreed that a program was needed to properly introduce youth to the game both for the growth of the game and to offer youth an additional form of on-island recreation.
A successful program, the JDP has up to forty youth receiving individual and group instruction from professionals and highly skilled players. Juniors have their own tournaments and are encouraged to play in adult tournaments, which generally have a junior division. Over the years, the JDP has seen some very young, unskilled youth mature into wonderful young adults with great golf and life skills. This scholarship fund was set up to help some of them continue their education—be it academic or a trade—beyond high school graduation.
