We all lead busy lives—commuting, working, caring for family, running errands. Finding time to connect with neighbours isn’t always easy, yet the rewards are immense. When we know and trust one another, our communities become stronger, healthier, and happier.
The Bowen Island Community Foundation’s Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program is built on a simple idea: everyone has something to share, and small acts of connection can make a big difference. Through NSG, community members can receive up to $500 to bring their ideas to life—projects that make our neighbourhoods better places to live.

This year, NSG supported a wide range of creative and community-minded projects: the Eaglecliff Neighbourhood Beach Party organized by Shelley Koke, the Bowen Island Litter Clean-Up led by Carolyn MacDonald, the Portable Pitching Mound for Bowen Island Baseball coordinated by Andrea Layzell, the Food Forest Project by Jackie Bradley, and Aaron Murray’s Cooling and First Aid Station for the Free Local Community Hip Hop Music Show. Community members also rallied for the Spring 2024 Special Cleanups after winter storms in Bluewater, Cates Hill, Queen Charlotte Heights, Bishop’s Hill, and Evergreen.
