The Governor General of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston addresses Sea to Sky Foundations

The Governor General of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, will speak to a community gathering in West Vancouver this week, on Thursday, March 3.

Geoff Jopson, board chair of the West Vancouver Community Foundation, says the Governor General’s vision for a better world was the inspiration for inviting him to West Vancouver.

“As Canada approaches its 150th birthday, the Governor General has challenged Canadians to envision a better world, where all Canadians can succeed, contribute and develop their talents to their fullest potential,” says Jopson. “It is our hope that his visit will serve as a call to action as we consider how we can work together to build smarter and more caring communities. It is only through the service and generosity of all our citizens that we will be able to achieve this vision.”

The event takes place on Thursday, March 3 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Kay Meek Centre for the Performing Arts in West Vancouver. At the event, the Governor General will deliver a keynote address on the important work of community foundations in ensuring members of the community thrive and succeed. The program will include a panel discussion and a reception. The event is free to the public but seating is limited and tickets are required. Go to kaymeekcentre.com for ticket information.

The Sea to Sky Community Foundations include the Bowen Island, Whistler, North Shore, Squamish, Sunshine Coast and West Vancouver Community Foundations.

“For all these community foundations, the Governor General’s visit is a signature event that we hope will stimulate interest and pride in the work that we do. We greatly appreciate the Governor General’s recognition and acknowledgement of the importance of community foundations,” says Jopson.
