The Janice Skeels Endowment Fund, created by her family in her memory, provides annual funding to support the Med Shed program operated by the Bowen Island Public Library. This service offers Bowen Islanders free, short-term loans of medical equipment ranging from crutches and wheelchairs to bed assists and tub grips. The fund reflects and honours Janice’s support of community needs, whether it was through providing the much-loved local business services at The Office or caring about neighbours’ well-being through supporting Bowen’s Christmas Hamper Fund. The Med Shed supported Janice so well when she needed its help and her family hope that the service will thrive and continue to meet the needs of Bowen’s growing community.
