Fun and giving went together this summer. Much thanks to Judi Gedye, Paul Rickett of the Bowen Beer & Wine Cellar, Erik Miller of Millers Meatcraft, and Driftwood Brewery for sponsoring a big week of giving for the end of summer … Their sponsorships brought donations in for three of the funds held by the Community Foundation in late August.
Judi Gedye arranged a showing of the CBC documentary The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration at the Community Centre with all proceeds going to BICF’s Kipp Thompson Memorial Bursary Fund and the Bowen Youth Resilience Fund. The first is a bursary for students pursuing a career in the performing arts and the second provides support for young people or their caregivers.
And, for a different kind of fun, the Bowen Beer & Wine Cellar (Paul Rickett), Millers Meatcraft (Erik Miller), and Driftwood Brewery all got together for a tasting of beer and food, “Drifterdogs,” with donations to the BICF Helping Hand Fund. This fund helps individuals and families in need on Bowen.
Much thanks to the sponsors and the donors. We are so grateful for the generous gifts to all of these funds that will make it that much more possible to support people in need in our community. Altogether, $2,339 was raised from the two events, with $1,297 from The Tragically Hip screening and $1,042 from the tastings. The generosity of Bowen’s people, both the sponsors and the donors, keeps our community well.
